<\/p>\nRecently, I stood with my camera in front of a scene that, at first glance, seemed unspectacular. I took a photo, slightly changed the angle, and took another.<\/p>\n

Just one step to the side, a different perspective, and a completely new image emerged. The result astonished me: although the subject, light, and timing were identical, the picture changed entirely. The background stood out differently, colors shifted, shadows formed new lines, and details that had just seemed central were suddenly almost insignificant. Reality was the same, yet it appeared different simply because I had positioned myself differently.<\/p>\n

This simple experience may seem banal at first. But it points to something we easily overlook in our thinking and work: Our perspective is never neutral. It creates an image of reality, not reality itself. We see what we stand for. We see where we stand.
\nIn our professional lives, we often cling to perspectives that have served us well for years. Not out of stubbornness, but because they feel familiar, logical, and right. Because we've gained experience, because routines work, because decisions have been correct in the past. And we have good reasons to be convinced. It's no different in teams. Everyone knows the procedures, the processes, the risks. Every position has a history, a rationale, a legitimacy.
\nBut just as with photography, one mustn't mistake the first image for the entire landscape. Not because it's wrong, but because it's incomplete. A minimal shift in perspective is enough to reveal a new picture: an argument that was previously in the shadows; a possibility that hadn't been examined; an assumption that was taken for granted and is suddenly being questioned.
\nGood leadership isn't about confirming existing viewpoints. It's about creating spaces where alternative perspectives can exist without being immediately judged or attacked. Teams improve when they can allow different positions to coexist for a while, not to force consensus, but to deepen understanding. Friction then becomes a source of information, not conflict. It is this diversity of voices that leads to sound decisions.
\nThis ability is not a call for relativism. A position can certainly be valid and well-founded. But it becomes stronger when it has to assert itself in dialogue with other perspectives. Rigidity, on the other hand, weakens. What worked once doesn't necessarily work again. Contexts change. People change. Organizations change faster than they realize.
\nChanging perspective doesn't mean contradicting yourself. It's a form of mental maintenance: a check to see if your view is still valid or if something has shifted. Not in the object itself, but in its context. Sometimes, the question "What if my view is only a fragment?" is enough. Or the willingness to briefly adopt an opposing position, not out of doubt, but out of curiosity.
\nWhat's interesting is how little it takes. Another conversation partner. An unexpected question. A step back. A step to the side. They aren't dramatic movements, but they have a profound effect. They open spaces that were previously closed off \u2013 and make visible what was already there, but out of sight.
\nAs with photography, changing perspective doesn't alter the subject, but rather our relationship to it. The scene remains the same, yet it tells a different story. This shift is the key: it expands the realm of possibilities without devaluing what already exists. The first image remains valid; the second reveals that something more exists alongside it.
\nThis also applies to our personal lives. We develop beliefs we rely on. This is necessary. But if we think only in familiar patterns for an extended period, our perception narrows. A change of perspective doesn't create uncertainty, but rather freedom. It allows us to be both grounded and flexible, rooted yet open.
\nPerhaps change doesn't require a major upheaval at all. Just the courage to take a step to the side \u2013 and to see anew what is already there.<\/p>\n
