I was out birdwatching by car, my camera beside me on the seat. It was one of those days when the landscape was tranquil and my gaze drifted across the fields, without searching for anything in particular. At the edge of a meadow, I noticed something dark. I slowed down, stopped, and remained seated in the car. Only on second glance did I realize it was a badger lying there, still, almost at one with the ground.

Something about this scene held my gaze. I sat there a little longer before driving on. The scene held me captive—not because of what was happening, but because of what might happen. And in that moment, I remembered the vultures waiting over a carcass: always the same rhythm of patience and action, never quite the same, but always familiar.
In nature, the reasons are closely intertwined: hunger, instinct, curiosity. Eventually, someone will come along who takes the first step, who opens what is closed. Then the cycle begins anew. Perhaps this is ultimately the law of nature: everything remains connected.
